Estimator

Location: Killingworth, North Tyneside
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum

The opportunity

Our client is an established commercial building and refurbishment contractor based in North Tyneside. Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Estimator to join their team.

This is a varied role offering more than traditional estimating. Alongside preparing costs and tender submissions, you'll work closely with clients, price projects through established frameworks and help develop the company's order book.

The position would suit someone with experience in commercial construction, refurbishment or maintenance who enjoys combining detailed estimating with client relationships and business development.

What you'll be doing

• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documents to establish the full scope of works
• Producing accurate estimates covering labour, materials, plant and subcontractor costs
• Pricing projects through established frameworks
• Preparing tenders, quotations and supporting submission documents
• Liaising with clients to clarify requirements and develop commercially viable proposals
• Building relationships with existing clients and identifying upcoming opportunities
• Re-engaging with previous and lapsed customers to help develop the order book
• Obtaining and reviewing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
• Working alongside operational colleagues to ensure estimates reflect the practical delivery of each project
• Reviewing scope changes and pricing variations throughout the project lifecycle
• Monitoring market costs to ensure submissions remain competitive and profitable
• Comparing estimated costs against project outcomes to improve future pricing
• Maintaining clear records of estimates, assumptions, quotations and correspondence
• Managing several tenders and enquiries while meeting submission deadlines

Requirements

Ideally, you'll have:

• Previous estimating experience within commercial construction, refurbishment, maintenance or a related environment
• Experience reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• The ability to produce detailed cost breakdowns for labour, materials, plant and subcontractor packages
• A good understanding of construction costs, margins and commercial risk
• Experience preparing quotations, tenders and bid submissions
• Confidence pricing variations and changes to project scope
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant estimating software
• The ability to manage multiple enquiries and deadlines
• Strong communication skills and a professional, client-focused approach

Experience working with public-sector frameworks would be beneficial, but it is not essential. Applications are also welcome from experienced construction estimators who are interested in developing their knowledge in this area.

Location

The role is based in Killingworth, North Tyneside, and would suit someone living in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North Tyneside or the surrounding areas.
