“All I’ve got on me is Vaseline and an eyelash brush.”
That was the line that summed up our team spirit as we set off on an 18-mile trek along the Thames Path from Wallingford to our Reading HQ. Some of us were armed with snacks, others with plasters, and… well, an eyelash brush. Whatever works, right?!
It wasn’t easy. 18 miles feels a lot longer when you’re actually walking it. By the end, there were sore legs, tired feet, and plenty of laughs about the decline in energy.
Every single step was worth it, though. Together, we raised £1,606 for the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, a charity that holds a special place in our hearts.
Why Alexander Devine?
![]() | ![]() |
Alexander Devine is a lifeline for children with life-limiting conditions, and for the families who support and care for them. They provide specialist nursing, respite care, and emotional support both at their purpose-built hospice in Maidenhead and in families’ own homes.
Their work ensures that children can live as fully as possible, while giving parents and siblings the care and support they need. From hydrotherapy pools and sensory play to end-of-life care, the services they provide are vital and entirely charity-funded.
That’s why we’re proud to walk and fundraise for them.
Aiming Big by 2026
The big trek was the headline event, but our fundraising started long before we laced up our trainers. We hosted bake sales, challenged each other to daily step competitions, and came together as a team to raise every pound we could.
Our goal is big: ÂŁ5,000 by the end of 2025.
That means more events, more ideas, and yes, probably more sore legs. We’ll keep pushing until we get as close as possible to that target, because every pound raised goes directly toward nurses, medicines, and the services that make a real difference to those who need it.
Thank You đź’™
A massive thank you to everyone who walked, donated, or cheered us on along the way. Your support means the world.
A special mention to Advance, who donated a generous ÂŁ1,000, and a shout-out to Apple Travel in Berkshire, who provided us with free coach travel to make the walk possible.
We’ll be sharing more fundraising efforts soon, so keep an eye on this space. And if you’d like to help us on our journey to £5k, donations are always welcome:
