This is a short-term assignment suited to a design professional with main contractor experience, strong technical knowledge, and hands-on site exposure. DfE project experience is preferred, although strong construction design experience on complex projects will also be considered.

Role Purpose

The Design Manager will support the delivery of a coordinated, compliant and cost-effective design solution across pre-construction and construction phases. Working closely with the site teams and consultants, the role will help ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the client's requirements.

Key Responsibilities of the Design Manager

  • Assisting with the coordination and management of design consultants to ensure compliance, buildability and efficiency

  • Acting as a key liaison between client, consultants, project teams and site management

  • Supporting the development of design packages and procurement strategies in collaboration with site and commercial teams

  • Coordinating the preparation, review and sign-off of design information

  • Ensuring effective flow, control and management of design documentation in line with document management procedures

  • Supporting risk management activities and design quality reviews at key project stages

  • Assisting with design handovers between pre-construction and site delivery teams

  • Supporting design input to environmental and sustainability requirements, including BREEAM where applicable

  • Representing the business at meetings with clients, stakeholders and regulatory bodies when required

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant qualification in Construction, Architecture or a related discipline

  • Previous experience working for a main contractor

  • Strong understanding of the Design & Build process

  • Excellent knowledge of the design process at both commercial and construction stages

  • Good working knowledge of the RIBA Plan of Work

  • Strong technical and construction knowledge

  • Understanding of the planning process and building regulations

  • Proven experience supporting design delivery on projects such as schools, residential, hospitals or student accommodation

Working Arrangement

  • Temporary assignment for approximately 2-3 months

  • Immediate start available
