Talking Social Value with Morgan Sindall in Welwyn Garden City

Dan Skinner recently visited Morgan Sindall Construction's offices in Welwyn Garden City for an open discussion on social value and how it's delivered across the supply chain.

An Honest Conversation

The discussion covered what's already working well across Morgan Sindall Group, where there's room to grow, and how social value data can be better recorded, evidenced and developed across the supply chain. It was refreshing to have such an open dialogue, one focused not on box-ticking, but on making a genuine difference.

Practical Ideas

Together, the group explored several ways to strengthen the social value offering, including:

• Sourcing local labour so people in the community have access to opportunities on local projects, supporting retention and assignment longevity.
• Volunteering time in schools and colleges to inspire the next generation of talent.
• Creating and promoting apprenticeship opportunities.
• Helping people back into work through workshops, CV advice and employability support.
• Supporting fundraising and charity activity that benefits local community projects.

Why This Matters

Social value isn't just a checkbox exercise, it's about the real, lasting impact we can have on the communities we work in. From giving people access to local jobs to inspiring young people in schools, these initiatives help build stronger, more resilient communities alongside a more sustainable supply chain.

Still a Work in Progress

This is very much an ongoing conversation, but the shared commitment in the room was clear. Everyone involved is genuinely invested in developing meaningful initiatives that go beyond words on a page.
