Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Social Housing Repairs
Contract: 12-Month Temporary
Salary: £47,000 per annum
Location: North London

Overview

We are seeking an analytically minded Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support a leading social housing provider on a one-year temporary contract. This role is ideal for a QS with strong data analysis skills, a passion for accuracy, and experience working within the repairs and maintenance sector of social housing.

As part of a high-performing commercial team, you will assist in validating cost data, supporting contractor performance reviews, preparing valuations, and ensuring repairs are delivered efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Repairs Cost Analysis: Examine repair orders, schedules of rates, invoices, and contractor submissions to ensure accuracy, value for money, and compliance with contract terms.

  • Commercial Reporting: Produce cost reports, financial summaries, and forecasts for internal stakeholders.

  • Data Quality & Insight: Clean, analyse, and interpret large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for potential savings.

  • Contract Support: Assist in managing repairs contracts, including validating contractor applications, monitoring KPIs, and supporting dispute resolution.

  • Budget Monitoring: Track expenditure against budgets and highlight variances early.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with operations teams, contractors, and finance colleagues to improve processes and ensure accurate cost control.

  • Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to internal policies, procurement rules, and relevant legislation.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience as an Assistant QS, Commercial Assistant, Cost Analyst, or similar within housing, repairs, or construction.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to handle complex data sets.

  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data modelling) and ideally experience with housing/repairs systems (e.g., Northgate, DRS, Oneserve, Orchard, NEC, or similar).

  • Understanding of Schedule of Rates (SOR), repairs diagnostics, and maintenance cost structures.

  • Confident communicator able to present insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

What We're Looking For

  • Someone who can hit the ground running, quickly understand live repairs data, and add immediate value.

  • A candidate with both QS knowledge and data literacy, who can support the commercial team in controlling spend.

  • An individual who is proactive, curious, and able to challenge cost inaccuracies confidently but constructively
