Job Opportunity: Maintenance Electrician
Location: Oxford
Reports to: Head of Maintenance

Our client is looking to appoint a Maintenance Electrician/Assistant to join a small, dedicated maintenance team in Oxford. This is a great opportunity for a skilled professional with a solid electrical background. The role involves day-to-day maintenance of utilities, plant, machinery, and equipment, with a strong focus on electrical tasks, while also supporting general maintenance as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond quickly to maintenance issues and breakdowns as they arise

  • Conduct routine checks of plant, infrastructure, and fabric; monitor and make changes to the College's Building Management System (BMS) as necessary

  • Identify and collect materials required for maintenance tasks

  • Safely store and use chemicals in accordance with COSHH guidelines and hazard data sheets

  • Participate in water monitoring regimes, including legionella inspections and reporting

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using digital tools such as PDAs or tablets

  • Perform electrical fault-finding and carry out necessary repairs, ensuring all statutory documentation is completed

  • Conduct testing and inspections as part of the College's planned preventative maintenance schedule

  • Undertake ongoing training and attend refresher courses to stay current with requirements

  • Assist with general building maintenance including basic repairs (e.g., lighting, locks, minor carpentry)

  • Proactively report future maintenance needs to the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor

  • Support colleagues with day-to-day maintenance and small refurbishment works

  • Record and keep updated any changes to electrical installations in College documentation and Health & Safety files

  • Ensure electrical works are certified and comply with current standards

  • Maintain tools and test equipment in good working order; report damage or calibration issues

  • Follow the College's Health & Safety policies at all times and report any potential hazards

  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe working environment

  • Assist with keeping the workshop clean, organised, and compliant with regulations

  • Carry a College radio during working hours and communicate as needed to ensure smooth operations

  • Be flexible and open to taking on new duties or training as needed

  • Participate in the out-of-hours call-out rota (after appropriate training and review)

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience delivering multi-trade repair, planned maintenance, and small projects

  • Previous experience working within a small maintenance team

  • Strong electrical repair and maintenance background

  • City & Guilds or NVQ (including AM2) in electrical maintenance/installation

  • 18th Edition wiring regulations certification

  • PAT testing experience using Seward or similar testers

  • Previous participation in an on-call rota

  • Resides within 30-45 minutes of Oxford
