About the Role:
Camden Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Repairs Supervisor to join its Property Services Team. This is a key operational role responsible for supervising a team of trade operatives delivering responsive repairs and void works across Camden's social housing stock. The successful candidate will ensure that all works are completed to the highest standard of quality, within budget, and in accordance with health and safety legislation.
This is a fast-paced, hands-on position suited to a well-organised individual with a strong background in building maintenance and contractor supervision within the public or social housing sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise day-to-day reactive maintenance and void repairs across a portfolio of residential properties.
Allocate work to in-house operatives and external contractors, ensuring maximum productivity and resource efficiency.
Carry out pre- and post-inspections of works to ensure quality, specification compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Monitor work progress, completion times, and contractor performance via internal systems and KPIs.
Ensure health and safety compliance on all worksites, conducting risk assessments and tool-box talks where necessary.
Liaise closely with the Repairs Service Manager, Housing Officers, and Resident Liaison teams to coordinate works and resolve issues promptly.
Provide technical advice and support to operatives and assist in diagnosing more complex repair issues.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, work orders, variations, and materials usage.
Respond to customer complaints or escalations professionally and ensure timely resolution.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to team performance targets.
Essential Requirements:
Proven experience supervising responsive repairs and/or voids within a social housing or local authority setting.
Strong technical knowledge of building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, and general trades.
Demonstrable experience managing operatives and contractors to deliver high-quality repair services.
Knowledge of current health and safety legislation and practices in a construction/maintenance environment.
Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
IT literate with experience using housing repairs systems or job management software.
